Here's a food picture diary of my weekend:
5) Lunch at Taqueria Guadalajara to finally staunch that Mexican craving. Wahoo, they serve their legendary carnitas on Fridays and weekends! Washed it all down with a pineapple agua fresca.
Finally, the pièce de résistance- staring down 650 pounds of Dungeness crab.
Why the massive amount of crustaceans? Let me introduce you to something even more important to me than food, a non-profit art foundation that I am a part of. The Maria Ann Hsiao Memorial Foundation reaches out to children in the SF Bay Area with the hopes of encouraging them to follow their hopes and dreams in the area of art. It is a deeply personal, deeply satisfying organization to be a part of.
Our annual crab feed was the reason why I returned home, and it was fun to surprise family, friends, and cook something non-French! In fact, it was back to the American basics: Caesar salad, garlic bread, pasta with tomato sauce, and steamed vegetables- just for 300 people. Not to mention an adventure clarifying 1.5 gallons of butter and making mignonette.
So voila, here are pictures from my final exam:
